Chevrolet began 1946, its first full postwar year of automobile production, with a minor freshening of its short-lived 1942 models. The Master Deluxe series was renamed Stylemaster, the Special Deluxe series was renamed Fleetmaster, and the Fleetline models were made the marque's flagship. All shared the venerable 216 cubic inch valve-in-head six-cylinder engine (nicknamed "Stovebolt" for its reliability), Chevrolet's highly-touted "Knee-Action" suspension, and a bold new grille with four horizontal bars. The 1947 cars saw only minor trim differences, the most notable being the deletion of the full-length brightwork strip on both sides of the car, and another new grille. The twenty-millionth Chevrolet, a Fleetline Aerosedan, was built during 1947. 1948 was the last year for the prewar design with yet another new grille featuring a bold V-shaped center bar, and a revised crease molding below the windows. More significant for this production year was the introduction of the precision main engine bearings, adding to an already enviable record.
